Manhatten Island has become a maximum security prison for 3 million criminals. When the american presidents plane is hijacked and crashed on the island, the president is taken hostage by gangland warlord The Duke. Sent to the resque is Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), former war hero now convicted criminal. To ensure safe return of the president, the police commissioner (Lee Van Cleef) has had tiny time bombs implanted to Plisskens neck - if he gets the president out within 24 hours he gets a pardon. If not, the bombs wil detonate an rapture his mayor arteries.
