"Uncle Saddam", a documentary by French freelance journalist Joel Soler, features extensive undercover footage from inside Iraq that captures a portrait of Saddam Husein taht is surreal, uniquely intimate and darkly humorous.
Through a mix of inventiveness, luck, courage and presistence, Soler witnessed and recorded things that few Westerners - or even Iraquis - have seen, risking his life in the brutal circumstances that existed under Saddam's iron rule.
After the completion of "Uncle Saddam", Soler's house was splattered with red paint, his trash cans set on fire and an anonymous death threat was pinned to his mailbox. The death threats have continued and the FBI is still investigating.
