Nearly ten years ago, director Mamoru Oshii burst on the international scene with his animated magnum opus, "Ghost in the Shell." The groundbreaking film served as the inspiration for the "Matrix" trilogy, and has influenced countless other films which have come after it. The long awaited sequel, "Innocence: Ghost in the Shell 2," puts Oshii right back in top form. Based on the same source material (Manga series by Masamune Shirow), the film features some of the same characters from the first film, Bateau, Kusanagi, and Togusa. The plot unravels as Bateau investigates a grisley murder commited by a humanoid/female robot. The film has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes International Film Festival, marking the first time ever that this honour has been extended to an animated movie.
