At Gigino's family restaurant, the action simmers just beneath the surface, but there's more on the menu than just food. After 25 years, the owner Louis Cropa (Aiello) has reached the boiling point and in one pivotal night, he's going to change the way he does business. Cropa's fashionable TriBeCa restaurant Gigino's, is highly regarded for Louis's son Udo's nouvelle cuisine. With a curious crowd in the restaurant including two humorless wise guys looking for the deeply in debt gambling addicted sous-chef, an impatient restaurant critic, who shows up unannounced, and a New York detective and his wife who are ushered to their table without having to wait the usual months for a reservation, the chaotic night is set in motion. The frenetic pace builds as all the separate stories begin to intertwine; the other patrons, as well as the wait staff sense that something is unusual about this night. Downstairs in the kitchen, a different scene is played out. The tempo moves faster as spices fly, knives tap and voices blare while master chef Udo conducts his team with precision and grace. During the final course of the evening, all ends of the spectrum collide, and reckoning and resolution conjoin during this seemingly typical dinner rush, when the order for revenge, a dish best served cold, is brought to the table.
