The arrival of the Black Ships has triggered an age of revolution in Japan. Ryoma Sakemoto, a young Imperialist, is known as one of the greatest swordsman in Kyoto. He opposes the last of the Tokugawa Shoguns, who is willing to throw away any number of lives to resist Westernization. But Ryoma seems to be more interested in spending time with his new friend, a simple wanderer by the name of Izumi Mutsu.
