Devdas and Parvati have been inseparable since childhood, and as they grew into adults, love naturally blossoms between the two of them. But when Devdas is sent away by his parents to study, he and Parvati must separate. Parvati's parents waste no time, and she is soon married off to someone else. When Devdas learns of her destiny, he drowns his sorrow in alcohol, and after constant alcoholic abuse, is pronounced at a critical stage, and may soon die. But Devdas remembers the promise he made to Parvati long ago, and sets out to see her once more before he dies.
