The Harunos are an unconventional, but happy and warm family in a quiet mountain town near Tokyo. The father is a hypnotherapist who occasionally tests his techniques on the family members. The mother is working to meet the deadline of her latest animated film. Their 6-year-old daughter is trying to cope with an imaginary twin sister who pops up at the worst of times. Her elder brother falls head over heels in love with a new classmate. Quietly observing it all is granddad, who turns out to be the most eccentric of them all. Then uncle Ayano is back on a nostalgic visit to his birthplace, hoping to come to terms with a romantic relationship that failed many years ago...
