When a tough, patriotic cop of the Chinese police force is kicked off the squad as punishment for ignoring orders during a plane hijack operation, he finds himself transferred to Lavernia, a Eastern European country where his only friends are his wits and his gun. Alone, a stranger in a strange land, he finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy between the Chinese, Russian and Japanese governments that threatens to tear his whole world apart. Until he also encounters his childhood girlfriend, who fled both him and China after the Tiananmen Square uprising, and their paths soon tangle with the charismatic but evil leader of the Japanese Cult of the Red Sun.
