Covertext George A. Romero's legendary zombie trilogy is presented here as a special 4-disc boxed set including NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), DAY OF THE DEAD (1985) plus a bonus DVD featuring Roy Frumkes' acclaimed documentary, The Document Of The Dead, and Thomas Brown's Night Of The Living Dead 25th Anniversary Edition documentary.

A pivotal figure in the development of contemporary horror, writer-director Romero redefined the genre in 1968 with his seminal zombie film, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. A landmark of independent cinema, it sees the horror begin as a group of strangers find themselves stranded in a farmhouse in the quiet Pennsylvania countryside under siege from hordes of newly risen corpses with a taste for human flesh. A film of tense, unrelenting terror from start to finish, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is an undisputed horror classic.

The sequel, 1978's powerful, apocalyptic DAWN OF THE DEAD was hailed by film critic Roger Ebert as "One of the best horror films ever made." A National Emergency grips the US as the zombie population grows at an inexplicable and alarming rate. Two Philadelphia Police S.W.A.T. officers, a helicopter pilot and his TV reporter girlfriend escape the city and take refuge in an abandoned, suburban shopping mall after securing it following a series of brutal confrontations with the undead. Their survival is threatened when a band of looters leave a door open allowing the zombies access to the mall once more.

By the time we get to 1985's DAY OF THE DEAD, the zombies have taken over the world, save for a small band of scientists and soldiers holed up in an underground missile silo. Through their research on captive zombies, the scientists are hoping to discover ways of controlling them. Things go awry when the military discover some of their own men have been used in the grotesque experiments and lock up the remaining scientists with the zombies. Perfectly bringing the series to a satisfying conclusion (at least for now; Romero is rumoured to be planning a Twilight Of The Dead), DAY OF THE DEAD manages to be even gorier and bleaker than its predecessors and reaches a whole new level of horror.
