Masterpiece of French cinema that is still as fresh and subversive as it was when it was released in 1932. The film's hero is the anarchic, freewhelling tramp whose suicide attempt is intreupted by kindly Paris bookseller Lestingois. He takes up residence in his benefactor's home and proceeds to take over his life, seducing his wife and then his mistress. He refuses to be bound by convention and eventually returns to his wandering life.
