One of my strongest beliefs in the cinema is that sex is just an ordinary part of life. It doesn't deserve to be the subject of an entire film any more than walking or eating does. However, because it is considered to be so taboo, most directors seem to go out of their way to make their sex scenes A) completely unappealing by showing every single facet that makes up the act, or B) hiding it so significantly that the audience knows for sure that something is missing. This childishness that most American filmmakers have about sex is the appalling element. They're giving in to the notion that, as Tinto Brass himself has said, "nature's most splendid pleasure is an evil monstrosity". If you want to teach your children that lesson, show any film that hides it's sexuality. It's like when television stations bleep out the curse words when airing a film...whether they hear it or not, the audience knows what is being said, or better yet, they can think up even dirtier possibilities. To bleep a word is to give it power, and to hide sex is to give it power.
