Covertext Originally banned by the New York State Censorship Board and slated by the press on both sides of the Atlantic, Scarlet Street combines Fritz Lang's expressionist heritage with the dark, forbidding and claustraphobic world of fear, and paranoia with low-key lighting, distorted images and a dark and cynical storyline.

Christopher Cross (Edward G. Robinson) is a meek but respected bank clerk who one night goes to the aid of Kitty Marsh (Joan Bennett) who is being attacked by her lowlife boyfriend (Dan Duryea). In time, Cross is pulled into a world of crime and deception by this seductive femme fatale and her manipulative boyfriend. Scarlet Street is a brilliantly atmospheric noir from Lang's American period.
