Imperial Japan, 1624. Shogunate General Hidetada has died under mysterious circumstances. It is soon revealed that the General was poisoned becuase he did not want his eldest son to be heir. A war between the eldest son and his younger brother soon erupts and a group of Shogun warriors is called into action, each taking respective sides. This is all being controlled by the Yagyu family, a group of Shogun who have trained the general's family in fencing and swordsmanship. As well as this, another group of imperial nobles are trying to use the fledging Shogun warriors to weaken the power of the Shogunate and restore actual power to the Emperor. Shogun's Samurai is a compelling 1978 feudal Japanese drama from director Kinji Fukasaku (Battle Royale).
