When all hope was lost, he invented it. During World War II, in occupied Poland, Jakob Heym (Robin Williams) accidentally overhears a radio broadcast about the Soviet and German troops. Since radios are banned in the Jewish ghettos where he is confined with many others, he tells his friend Mischa (Liev Schreiber), who mistakenly believes that Jakob has a radio hidden away himself. Soon Jakob is pretending to receive more news about the war, and making up tales to keep hope alive in the ghetto.
